About our Campus

Built against a gentle curving hillside, and sitting on a 3.34 acre lot with breathtaking views of the Bay, Cragmont was designed to inspire learning. Staff and students enjoy 50,000 sq. feet of classrooms that are lit by broad bay windows, maximize space with built-in cabinetry on three walls, include an oversized white board, a computer station and a large carpeted area. Curved corners in the hallway help create the necessary space for large class movement and display of student work. The library is large and stunning, easily shelving over 10,000 books including reference, non-fiction and literature, and has an incredible sky deck attached. Kindergartners enjoy their own play yard and benefit from both shared and exclusive classroom space.
The old Cragmont Elementary School had substantial structural deficiencies and was located in a complex geological area. Cragmont was evacuated after the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 and the program was relocated to Franklin School. The school was demolished and a new, award winning school, designed by ELS / Elbasani & Logan Architects, was completed in 2000 at a cost of approx. $10 million.

Arts in Education

Our stimulating arts program includes visual arts, dance, and music. All students receive a minimum of two hours of arts instruction from specialists in the field every week. In addition to these exciting programs, classroom teachers regularly include art extensions in their lessons.

Learning as a Community

Living and learning in a community is important at Cragmont. Families are an important and very active part of our community. Parent/grandparents/guardians assist teachers in the classroom, chaperone field trips, help in the library, supervise students in the yard, and work in the office. Our extremely involved PTA runs our Halloween event at school; the Fall Fling evening out; our Winter Arts, Crafts, and Food Fair; the Spring Carnival, and organizes our many classroom volunteers. Parents also contribute as members of our School Governance Council (SGC), which creates and directs our school plan. These components as well as others help students to develop two of our core values; a strong sense of self and a feeling of belonging to a community.
As you can see, Cragmont is in pursuit of a new standard of education. We offer an incredible elementary school experience in which students are given the support to work at their full potential.
