The MOSAIC project is a shared learning experience and has been integrated as a core part of our program here at Cragmont. We count on all students to have the background knowledge of topics covered at MOSAIC Camp as we work with them every week for the rest of the year during Dragon Time.
Timing
There will be two week-long sessions: September 21-25 and September 28-October 2. The 4th grade teachers will work with the MOSAIC project to form groupings of students attending each session. Please indicate on the attached form if your family cannot accommodate attendance at one of the sessions, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. We realize that Yom Kippur falls during the second session, and if we know in advance, we should be able to place students who will be attending services in the first session.
Cost and Scholarships
The camp fee is $395 per student.
In addition to the per student camp fees, there is $3,050 in shared "extra" costs:
$ 2,000 for BUSD transportation to and from camp,
$ 300 for CDs ($5 each), and
$ 750 for teacher fees ($250 teacher/staff rate for 3 teachers attending).
The PTA has long supported the MOSAIC project at Cragmont, and this year in an effort to make an equitable contribution to help the entire cohort, the PTA draft budget includes funding the entire $3,050 in shared costs.
Therefore, the cost to families to attend the MOSAIC camp this year is the camp fee of $395 per student. Understanding that we have a diverse population and that especially in this economic time that might be difficult for some families to provide, the MOSAIC project has generously provided us with scholarship funds to help make it possible for our entire cohort to attend. If you will need either full or partial scholarship, please be sure to indicate that on the attached form and you will be contacted by school personnel. Discussions around scholarships will be handled in confidence by the school, NOT by parent members of the MOSAIC committee or by PTA.
Of course, if you can afford to contribute more, your generosity will help ensure that the entire 4th grade cohort can attend MOSAIC camp this year and will be much appreciated.
Other Details
Health Concerns:
The nearest hospital is 20 minutes from the
site, and many of the staff are trained wilderness responders. Food is prepared
on site daily by a chef who has family members with severe food allergies, so
as long as allergy concerns are conveyed to the staff, they will be handled
with care. Cragmont students with anaphylaxis and other severe food allergies
have attended MOSAIC camp safely in the past.
Staffing:
No staff member is ever allowed to be alone with a child. All staff members have been fingerprinted and have undergone rigorous background checks. Additionally, all current staff have been with the project for a number of years.
Other Concerns
If you have any other concerns, please ask someone! Chances
are if you have a question that hasn't been answered, someone else has it too
so it's helpful to the whole group if you make your concern known. This cohort
is especially fortunate to be made up of over half younger siblings - that
means that over half of the current third grade families have some experience
with MOSAIC, whether they participated or not. If you know someone with an
older child who has participated, sound them out. Many families are
understandably nervous about having their children gone for a whole week, so
ask families who had similar concerns how it went.
You can also check the MOSAIC website: www.mosaicproject.org for more information and great videos.
And if you have any questions that still need to be answered, please contact any MOSAIC committee member through the Cragmont.org website or through contact information in the Cragmont School Directory.
Thank you!
