Read-a-Thon

Each year, Cragmont holds a Read-a-Thon. During this event, students are invited to come to school in pajamas and bring a blanket, pillow, and a good book. Each classroom devotes a portion of the day to enjoying books, with students being read to or reading on their own.

The Read-a-Thon not only encourages the love of books, but it’s also a PTA fundraiser to support literacy programs at Cragmont, such as:

  • Providing leveled readers in English and Spanish for classroom libraries
  • Lunchtime student book clubs
  • Family literacy nights

Here’s how pledging works:

  • Ask your family, neighbors and friends to become sponsors.
  • Use the pledge form (Spanish form) to record the amounts of the pledges; pledges are made in half-hour increments. The minimum is $1 per half hour, or pledge $5, $10, $20 (or any amount) per half hour
  • Sponsors can also choose to donate a flat amount
  • Ask people to please pay their pledge or donation up front – Donate online, by cash, or by checks payable to Cragmont PTA.
  • Indicate on the form whether your sponsor paid with cash, check, or online. Keep the money you collect in the envelope provided.
  • After the Read-a-Thon, collect any remaining pledges and bring the money to your child’s teacher. Students can also have conversations about the books they read when they thank their sponsors.

At the end of the Read-a-Thon day, each student is sent home with a reward.
